Thank yous - and the 'Farm in Iowa' universe
First, thank you to everyone for the anonymous love comments on the memes of last week. They made me blushy and twisty-chest and chuckly all at once (which makes for some extremely odd facial expressions, lemme tell you). *smishes*

Second, [livejournal.com profile] el_gilliath suggested that it might be useful to have an index post for the Farm in Iowa stories. While there is an iowa universe tag, the stories show up in reverse order, and there are little snippets floating all over. So - consider this your handy source of links to the stories in the order of events lived (rather than the order in which they were written):

The stories: major instalments have a single number; snippets and ficlets are numbered and lettered

1. A Farm in Iowa

1a. Rodney's perspective on the concert, and the kiss by the truck

2. And Then There was Finn

2a. Toilet Paper, Tylenol, and the Geneva Convention (a more detailed account of Rodney's cold that's mentioned in 'Finn')

2b. Stairs (set before Finn comes to stay at the farm)

2c. Of 2am Feedings And Much Deprivation(sleep-deprived sex, while Finn's still a baby)

3. These Men Who Have Flown

4. Skies to Conquer, Gave Us Wings

   4a. Hallowe'en, just before Finn's second birthday.

4b. The Christmas Shenanigans of Finn McKay (the Christmas just after Finn turns two)

5. Fall (which I imagine happened in late September or early October, before the events in Near the Earth, to Touch)

6. Near the Earth, to Touch

6a. Major Scary Monster-Catcher (set after the family returns from Canada, and before the 12th of March, when Laura gets sick in Near the Earth, to Touch)

6b. Sunday Morning (Daylight savings kicks in that spring)

   6c. Exhaustion (Rodney's beat)

7. Two and (and a half) Weeks in the Life

7a: How Rodney came to be in Iowa in the first place

8. A Big Stupid Glory Of Being Wrong All The Time

8a. Rodney's Story (Rodney reveals what made him leave after that very first night)

9. The Ballad of the Lincoln Café

I'll add future stories to that list as I write them. But for now:

The Once and Future End: Benediction along with its in-comment partner.

after the update yesterday, my friend [livejournal.com profile] unrequitedrain and I have been leaving farm in iowa quotes back and forth on facebook walls, which led to a discussion of the need for a farm in iowa group. needless to say, this was not a difficult task.

May I present: A Farm in Iowa (http://bgsu.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2223422511), a facebook fanclub.

I'm so glad you've made an index! I've been wanting to rec the series, but couldnt' decide where to send people. This is great!

I can't recall if I've commented on the stories so far, but just in case - I love this universe! I live in Iowas, just a stone's throw away from where you've set these fics, so they have loads of meaning for me. Fantastic stories!

I'm not sure if this is the place to post it, but I'm having problems downloading the soundtracks that are hosted by [livejournal.com profile] princess_bunny. My computer will just start downloading them without asking for a password, which of course doesn't work.

Whenever I have a really rubbish day or I'm feeling down, I come here and read the Iowaverse, or listen to the soundtracks, and the world's not quite so crap anymore. I just really wanted to thank you for that.

Hi!

There were two stories that were related to Iowa!Verse, and I was hoping to read them? I wonder if you know/remember what they are or had them linked?

First one: John has a vision of Finn and Iowa, and Rodney bugging him about who Finn's mother was.

Second one was found in SGA Storyfinders. Someone there suggested that I ask you!

I hope this isn't too forward to ask. My plan for valentine's day is to re-read Iowa (and related) stories, to distract myself from my own lack of romance.

Thank you so much for writing these wonderful stories.

not too forward, no - but I think (looking at storyfinders) someone's already found both of the stories for you? I don't have them linked anywhere because they're remixes of a sort, and not actually part of the 'verse. But I'm glad someone was able to point you in the right direction!

I was putting together a bundled-up version of this series for a friend of mine who's going on travel for 6 weeks (6 weeks without fandom! eeek!) -- I thought I'd give her something nice and long and warm and fuzzy to read on her trip. Alas, I had not seen the in-comment partner to "Benediction", so instead of being happy-sniffly, she'll have to be the other kind of sniffly.

Me, though? happy-sniffly. :-) Thanks so much for writing these stories!

this series is probably my favorite AU in ALL OF FANDOM. you are so good at creating very affecting moments of connection between the characters without sacrificing the things that are strange and a bit stand-offish about them (from the show). i absolutely adore the balance you've created between romanticism and domesticity and (of course) snarkiness. i read this all the way through, and then turned around and read it again. i hope you write more.

I've always enjoyed SGA, and I've dipped my toe in the fic waters, so to speak, but this is the first thing that's grabbed me and wound itself around my heart. I've just read the entire series in one go. I'm enthralled with it; I don't think I could have stopped reading even if I'd wanted to. You are truly amazing.

I stayed up until almost 4am this morning reading this series, after following a link from...somewhere.

This was one of the most enjoyable AUs I've ever read. I really did laugh like a loon (thank goodness I live alone!)

Thanks for writing something so enjoyable.

So, I lost most of yesterday afternoon consuming everything I could find in this universe... Pretty much have no idea where to start giving feedback as there is SO MUCH and ut's SO GOOD and just. *flails a little* Until I read this I didn't like kid!fic or domestic!John (as it were...) - now, I'm pretty much smitten. Love how they're still them, though they're not, and love how it all comes round to Atlantis in the end. &&& oh man, so much other stuff that won't fit in this comment-box but is just to say: awesome. Thanks so much for writing this, & sharing. :)

Random 'Iowa' moment
So I was in the store and saw this:

And my very, very first thought was, "Finn!" and my next thought was, "Flyin' Baffa?" So because your amazing universe has thoroughly corrupted my brain, I thought I'd share.

I've just spent the last four evenings reading all 'Farm in Iowa' until I basically fell asleep in front of the laptop.

I love this verse! It's one of the best fanfics I've ever seen (hell, it's the top of the list together with the 'House'-contract-verse). :-)

My favourite part is when John steps through the gate to go to Atlantis. I actually jumped up and did a little dance when I read it.
I also love Finn's nickname - puddlejumper

Thank you so much for sharing!

Wow
[livejournal.com profile] girlnamedpixley, you've made a beautiful book format out of shea's awesome stories. Wonderfully done, hon. And you included all the graphics and art inspired by the series, too.
And now I've got it all saved on the desktop, for dragging out to read whenever I need the sweet, sweet comfort of an awesome story.
