Downton Abbey: Thinky Thoughts  
I've been watching Downton Abbey of late - I'm about half way through season two at the moment, and I'm absolutely sucked into the intrigue, not to mention the hats. The soapiness of season two outpaces that of season one by a factor of about a hundred, but I keep watching regardless, in enormous part thanks to Maggie Smith, who is an utter delight. I would watch the Violet Crawley show all day, every day, if I had half a chance.

But I realized today that the show's also stirring up all kinds of aches and wishes where my family's concerned, some tangential to the show, and some not. And so that's what this post is about - my great-grandmother's time in service, and the things we know (and don't) as a result. (There are some spoilers for season two amid the tale.)
